Recognize the name? Of course you do. Alannah Myles was the singer who brought the Grammy-winning song, "Black Velvet" to the world. Alannah won a 1990 Grammy Award for 'Best Rock Female Vocal Performance', in her category which included Janet Jackson, Melissa Ethridge, Allison Moyet and Tina Turner. She also won three Juno Awards (Album of the Year and Most Promising Female Vocalist).
She received Britain's Elvis Award in 1992 and In 1990, Alannah was also nominated for a second Grammy for her wonderful song, "Rocking Horse". You most likely are also familiar with her hits "Love Is" and "Lover of Mine"
In 2005 Black Velvet received the ASCAP award for 4 million airplays. It is among one of the most air played songs in the world today. Hence the reasoning behind re-recording it and releasing it this June on Alannah's new label signing with Linus Entertainment, distributed by Universal Music in Canada, Koch Records in the USA And various labels worldwide in the fall of 2007.
Based in Toronto, Alannah continues to entertain her fans and as she writes on her website "we are a work in progress". Alannah is solely responsible for producing her upcoming new CD release 'Black Velvet' under her own AvAtArecordinc label but is no longer an indie artist, though there is still plenty for her to do~!
